The Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians are a collaborative professional community of practitioners, educators, researchers and industry representatives. All with a common goal to ensure high standards of skin health education and patient safety.
DERMAL CLINICIANS, WHO ARE WE?
Dermal Clinicians are allied health professionals with expertise in skin health. We are evidence based, independent practitioners. You might find us working in private practice, community health settings, medical specialty areas as well as within hospital outpatient clinics.
HAVE YOU GOT A SKIN CONCERN?
The skin is very important for health and wellbeing. It is our first line of defence against the outside world. Everyone should have the opportunity to feel comfortable in their skin. We can provide education and management strategies if you are experiencing skin problems.
STANDARDS & CODES OF ETHICAL BEHAVIOUR
As allied health professionals you can expect that your Dermal Clinician will behave in an ethical and evidence based manner. As ASDC members we are guided by a Code of Ethical Practice and Standards of Practice
HISTORY OF DERMAL CLINICIANS
The Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians was founded in 2001 in Melbourne, Australia. We now represent skin health professionals all over Australia, in varied clinical settings. The ASDC work to increase awareness of skin health and the expertise and role of Dermal Clinicians in health.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE & EDUCATION
Dermal Clinicians have an AQF 7 Bachelor of Health Science with a focus on skin health and management. The ASDC recognises that there are skin health professionals with different educational backgrounds and levels assisting those with skin concerns.
GOVERNANCE OF THE ASDC
The Australian Society of Dermal Clinicians is a not for profit professional body representing Dermal Clinicians and Dermal Therapists. We advocate for best practice and public safety for those seeking skin health services. The ASDC board members are all dedicated Dermal Clinicians with expertise in clinical practice, education and research.
THE PROFESSION & TITLES
The ASDC endorse titles based on ASDC membership category and the formalised qualifications required for entry into those categories. As these are not government protected titles it is important that you ask your Dermal Clinician if they have one of the ASDC recognised qualifications.
AFFILIATES & INDUSTRY PARTNERS
The ASDC works in collaboration and partnership with likeminded professional bodies and associations as well as industry connections on various projects. This includes educational opportunities, guidance and consensus documents.
