Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Guidance

To prevent cross contamination from health professional to client or client to health professional donning and doffing in the correct order of items is imperative.

How to put on your PPE (Donning)

How to take off your PPE (Doffing)

Dermal Health Professionals should perform a risk assessment for the treatment, their clinical setting, clients current state of health and current health department requirements in order to choose correctly the PPE required.

Masks are for cases where droplet transmission (coughing and sneezing, respiration in close contact) may occur and eyewear to prevent entry to mucous membranes in the eyes.  It is recommended for Dermal Health Professionals performing face to face treatments where 1.5 metre distancing can't be maintained to always wear protective eyewear and a surgical mask, unless performing plume producing procedures where an N95 mask and PPE eyewear appropriate for procedure being performed is required.

Dermal health professionals dealing with health clients are not required to wear a surgical gown.  In these times where exposure to a contagious organism is a risk, dermal health professionals that are working in close proximity to clients at this time can substitute a disposable apron.
