About the Event
Dermal clinicians are ideally positioned to utilise their understanding of skin and regular patient contact in the early detection of skin cancer. Whilst they are not necessarily required to manage the patient, Dermal clinicians can be in a unique position to offer spot checks for lesions of concern or potentially identify changing lesions through their regular patient contact and associated treatments performed on skin. DermScreen is an innovative healthcare company supporting non-dermatologists in the early detection of skin cancers through technology. The platform has demonstrated increased knowledge by practitioners using the service and improving access to dermatologists advice and clinical opinion. These services also can be expanded to other therapeutic areas such as acne, rosacea and photoaging.
Dr Philip Tong is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists after completing his dermatology specialist training in NSW as the inaugural Dean’s Fellow in Dermatology, a joint initiative with The University of Sydney. He underwent world class-research and dermatology training in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne and London and is currently a VMO at St Vincent’s Hospital, Darlinghurst and in private practice in Bondi Junction. His early research focus was in melanoma, biomedical imaging and skin immunology, however he now focuses his energy in utilising technology to improve dermatology access to patients, GPs and pharmacists. He does this through a virtual care platform called DermScreen.
